No changes from the 'Little Rascal' we've already tested, is there? Just updating the additional files and folders?

Here's a link to the WC Wiki page (http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Installation_And_Requirements) discussing how to update the app. Look at the section labeled "Upgrading to new version". It is quite a simple process, only four steps. However, I would suggest one additional step. I'll call it step 1.a. After you Quit WeatherCat, either:That will make it easy to revert to the old version should there be any problem running the new one with your other apps and OS.

Dear John, X-Air, and WeatherCat faithful,

I am running WXCat 2.41, I just Download WeatherCat (V2.4.4, 24 MB).
I do not know how to install the latest version.
I do not want to loose all my configurations.

X-Air has given you the basic tip, but in a nutshell all you need to do is replace the WeatherCat application file.  Your configuration files and data are stored in other places on your computer so they won't be at all effected.

Let us know if you succeed in upgrading or if you run into some other problem.

Cheers, Edouard

Hi friends.
Thanks you very much for your help.
It was very simple to do with your great information.
I only lost 5 round instruments but I manage to place them back
Thanks again. Really appreciated it.

I 'cheat' and take a window capture (shift-command-4) of the Gauge creation window for every one I create. That way, if I ever 'lose' one, I have all the details available to re-create it. Doesn't hurt to use window captures for prefs windows, either. [tup] As the old proverb says, "A window capture in time saves lots of experimenting." or something like that...  :)

Dear John, X-Air, and WeatherCat faithful,

Thanks you very much for your help.

I'm glad that you were able to upgrade relatively smoothly

I only lost 5 round instruments but I manage to place them back

However, I'm puzzled by this.  You shouldn't have had the gauges disappear like that.  Can you tell us how you put them back?  Were they simply not being displayed or did you have to create them again from scratch?

Congratulations on the update!  :)

Hi again.

They simply disapeared from the front panel as you can see them back in my picture.
Wind, pressure, wind direction etc...

I went to the menu bar and click on each of them individually in the drop down menu and they came back. They seem to have kept there color so it was not a big deal, just a little spooky.

Replace them in the right order and voil?.

I did not made the other updates before because I was scared to loose everything but now and with you generous help, I feel more confident.

Thanks again, you made my day.

Okay, that is the sort of situation that does happen with WeatherCat from time to time and indeed is very easy to correct.  Glad to hear you have your display back to what you intended.

the last time I updated the app,  I had a boatload of problems and since this version is a maintenence  I think I will wait incase the next version has some feature changes.  Mine works fine as is.

With a PC  I can find the offending file pretty easy, with the mac, it is an adventure.    I have the fusion drive, so I think holding off on anything until Apple feels the pressure to correct its file system for fusion .  When and when?   no clue.

WeatherCat is a nice program, it has always puzzled me why more weather station dealers do not support the Apple system, it is a virtual gold mine and they are missing it.  keep up the great work.

I use both, WCat and WeatherNsoop on my Imac.

I enjoy the radar window in WXSnoop.
WxC has a more flexible way for modifying windows as we please.
WXSnoop ver 2 as far as I am concern was more beautiful and the instruments were bigger.
But 99% of the time I use WxCat as I can watch my outside camera to peep on the weather.

You are right about not having more Wx software for the Apple community. At least, we now have a very good one.
Cheers.

Hi again,
I have a problem. Each night since I updated the software my WxC stop and I received this e-mail alert:

Comms to station have failed, trying to reset. Results to follow...

WeatherCat TimeStamp: 03:08:57 09-Nov-17

then a few minutes later:

Comms reset successful.

WeatherCat TimeStamp: 03:09:06 09-Nov-17

but my software is not connected to my Vantage Vue station.

I have to quit WXC and restart it in the morning and loose some data.

What can I dot about that?

Thanks

WXC give me a diagnostic file witch start :

Title: Check for old drivers, cable issues? (Was: WeatherCat Version 2.4.4)

Dear John and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

I have a problem. Each night since I updated the software my WxC stop and I received this e-mail alert:

Comms to station have failed, trying to reset. Results to follow...

I've never been aware of WeatherCat reporting that it reset the communications but not actually restoring communications.  I'm concerned that you might have multiple copies of the Silicon Labs driver.  Could you run the System Report on your computer?  This following Apple technical support document explains how (perhaps you can find it in French:)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203001 (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203001)

You need to scroll down to the software section and then look at Extensions.  Once you get there you need to scroll down a long list of extensions until you reach Silicon Labs.  Here is a screenshot from my computer:

Make sure there is only one copy of the Silicon Labs driver.

but my software is not connected to my Vantage Vue station.

I have to quit WXC and restart it in the morning and loose some data.

What can I dot about that?

The other possibility is that you have some hardware issues.  We have some suggestions for Davis hardware on the WeatherCat wiki:

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Davis (http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Davis)

In particular, the suggestion to install Ferrite clamps is often helpful:

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Electronic_Interference_Effects_on_Station_Hardware/Data_Logger/USB_Cable (http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Electronic_Interference_Effects_on_Station_Hardware/Data_Logger/USB_Cable)

The other things that concerns me is your loss of data.  Your data logger has a buffer that should be able to hold a least a 1 day and 20 hours of data.  Our wiki also has data on how much capacity the data logger has depending on your sampling interval:

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Capacity_of_the_Davis_data-logger_to_store_weather_data_depending_on_the_chosen_sampling_interval (http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Capacity_of_the_Davis_data-logger_to_store_weather_data_depending_on_the_chosen_sampling_interval)

When WeatherCat reconnects to your Vantage Vue, it should download the data since the connection failed.  If WeatherCat is unable to recover the data, it is possible that your data logger is defective.  You might need to connect either your dealer or Davis directly to see if they can help you diagnose this problem.

Cheers, Edouard

Hi
Here are 2 screen shots of the extension you requested. It seem that I have 2 drivers listed. Both of them have only 2 minutes difference on the same date. One is a regular driver and the other one is label 64.  Hum!!

Since I am no too much of a pro on that type of problem, I will then take my time to find the culprit as I do not want to loose the ability to use my precious WXC software.

My data logger is made by Bellfry Boy and not Davis.

I will take the time to read the links you posted to see where the problem lies.

It is kindda weird since I rarely did have this problem before.

Thanks Edouard.

Come to think about it, I will check for the next few days if the communications lost always arise at the same time at night.

This should point somewhere at least i guess.  [sweat]

I have 4 messages to date, all of them during the night:

Comms to station have failed, trying to reset. Results to follow...

WeatherCat TimeStamp: 00:04:16 07-Nov-17
Comms reset successful.

WeatherCat TimeStamp: 00:04:24 07-Nov-17

Your Silicon Lab driver is 2 major revisions behind the current driver.  That certainly could be the problem.  Try downloading the driver described in this thread:

http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=2550.0 (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=2550.0)

My data logger is made by Bellfry Boy and not Davis.

Okay that explains why you are losing data.  The Bellfry Boy interface doesn't have any data logger at all.  It simply allows a computer to access the data from the console.  We don't have a lot of experience with that interface, so we could not help you if the interface were starting to fail.

Let us know if upgrading the software driver is sufficient to solve your problems.

Cheers, Edouard

Hi.

I was away for a few days, upon returning I restarted WxC and the logger sent all the data to my Weather Underground site. No data was lost. So it must keep them after all.

Ok my question is: how to install the new Silabs driver? Do I have to remove the 2 old one that I see in the system information as you showed me on an earlier post?

I am a bit scare of loosing control on my WXc.

Thanks for your help.

Dear John and WeatherCat faithful,

According to the fellow who created the clone of the Davis data logger it does include the data storage as does the Davis product.  It is described on this web page:

http://belfryboyweatherbits.blogspot.com/p/the-belfryboy-clone-usb-logger.html (http://belfryboyweatherbits.blogspot.com/p/the-belfryboy-clone-usb-logger.html)

Ok my question is: how to install the new Silabs driver? Do I have to remove the 2 old one that I see in the system information as you showed me on an earlier post?

I am a bit scare of loosing control on my WXc.

I just reviewed the release notes there is absolutely no mention of having to remove old versions before installing the latest version.  The release notes are here:

https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/release-notes/Mac_OSX_VCP_Driver_Release_Notes.txt (https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/release-notes/Mac_OSX_VCP_Driver_Release_Notes.txt)

I think you can safely run the latest driver installation software and be confident that WeatherCat will work just fine.

Been a while since I updated mine. Just checked, the DMG includes a .txt file that says all one need do is "double click on Silicon Labs VCP Driver". However, I'm not usually comfortable leaving old versions of things like extensions/daemons/kexts laying around. I suppose if the name is exactly the same, the OS will automatically ask for approval to over-write the current version. All I know, for sure, is that I have only one version in /Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext

Just installed the new driver.

It seem by doing so that the old 2 drivers were removed and only the new one appear on the Extension window now.

So far it is working.  I had 8 communications failures last night, hope this will correct the problem.

Thanks friends for your help.

No more lost communications messages at night.
