Weather Underground Service Interruption
« on: June 16, 2015, 11:07:42 PM »
Received this today from WU:

PWS Service Interruption Update.

At approximately 9:13AM PT on 6/15/2015, a cable near our database was cut by a construction crew working near the datacenter.  This impacted our PWS servers and as a result inhibited getting PWS data to our web and mobile apps.  Our vendor assessed the incident and made repairs throughout the night.  We are seeing services slowly coming back online.

We apologize for the service interruption and appreciate your patience.

Weather Underground Team

My upload have been working fine but some of the WU hot links have not been functional for a couple of days.

Dear Blick and WeatherCat data submission junkies, . . . .

My upload have been working fine but some of the WU hot links have not been functional for a couple of days.

I got the same notification but didn't have any time to check into it.  Thanks for sharing it with the rest of the WeatherCatters. . .  :)

I just double-checked, both WeatherCat data submissions and my station web page on Weather Underground look okay.  However, I'm sure they will have additional outages as they try to recover from this.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

I noticed the service interruption when it occurred. Glad to see that they sent out an email, albeit, tardy, about the breakdown of service. I don't think we ever received such notices before Weather Channel bought Weather Underground.

A little OT:

Emailed a friend the other day and they said they enjoyed my web cam at WU. Frankly, I'd forgot I had been uploading one! OTOH, I thought it was actually a movie, not simply an image. I attempted to enter a link to a movie that is being uploaded and used in another site I'm working on. That didn't seem to work and I had other irons in the fire.

I may have done something  to my WU settings, since I got a report that they hadn't received any data from me in ~4 hours. I went back and 'played' with the WC settings and noticed I had disabled the "Create Web Pages" for "Simple Web". I re-enabled that about 10 minutes ago. Might that have had anything to do with the interruption, even though that was more like 18 hours ago? :o Just before writing this, WU says my data is coming in again. Just a coincident?

My WU settings have not changed and my movies and noon still shots aren't working either so I am thinking it's them, not us.

My webcam looks okay (Re: Weather Underground Service Interruption)

Dear Blick, X-Air, and WeatherCat webcam caregivers,

My WU settings have not changed and my movies and noon still shots aren't working either so I am thinking it's them, not us.

I just doubled-checked my Weather Underground setup and the webcam images are looking okay from my station.  Still images and movies are working as they are supposed to.  Perhaps they fixed it in between the time you checked and I did.

Cheers, Edouard

Dear WeatherCat data submission junkies,

For a brief period this afternoon my WC Status Growler AppleScript made the following pronouncement:

It has since gone away, but does suggest that the Weather Underground folks are once more doing some upgrading/maintenance or stuff like that.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

If you're going to "steal" them anyway, might as well just link to Driver's open-source Photobucket account.    [woohoo]

I'll bring this up when I meet with my trusted advisors...

What I want to know is this: Are you wearing socks?

Usually, at least one, and if two or more, they often match! [removed link to the now dumped Photobucket site] ...each other, not necessarily anything else I might be wearing... HEY! You're lucky I even have shoes on! [banghead] I'm from Arkansas! [cheer]
