Hi folks,
I am still reeling from that photo of Mount Adams. I would love to have my webcam working there.
Finally worked out the best solution for the Youtube resolution with iMovie 09. I have to choose the wide format otherwise the HD is not available. So I did that with my old sunrise timelapses, from stills taken 1 each min, and they look much better. The duration is set for 1 sec, making one minute videos for one hour of sunrise. I had to remove the copyrighted music to ensure not being block in some countries but Youtube left some squeaks in between.
Mountain views sometimes look like this foggy webcam attached. Extreme high pressure these last weeks has caused a lot of dense fog at low altitudes but it sometimes moves up higher.
Wishing all a good start in the New Year,
Irving

Dear glenwood, Irving, and WeatherCat shutterbugs, . . .

Beautiful images and videos!!  Thanks for sharing!!

Finally worked out the best solution for the Youtube resolution with iMovie 09. I have to choose the wide format otherwise the HD is not available.

Your latest videos are now 854x480.  That is better but clearly you have more data that iMovie is allowing you to take advantage of.  Assuming you are interested enough, is there any chance you could upgrade your version of iMovie?  2009 is now 8 years old.  That could be the reason you can make true HD videos.

Cheers, Edouard

Hi Edouard,
Strange about my 480 resolution on Youtube. I uploaded at HD 720.  Anyway I am reasonably happy with the results. My old Mac running 10.9.5 seems not to be beyond any further upgrading. After much googling I am pretty sure that iMovie above 09 is not possible. Someday maybe I'll get a new computer. Here is another recent sunrise video.
Happy New Year to all,
Irving

iMovie 10.1.4 does require OS X 10.11.2 or later. In honor of Apple's inconsistent version numbering of the iLife apps, I offer the following concerning iMovie:
  • iMovie '09 January 27, 2009
    • Bundled with all new Macs and for separate purchase (iLife '09)
    • Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
    • Bundled as part of the iLife '09 package.
  • iMovie '11 October 20, 2010.
    • Bundled with all new Macs sold on or after October 20, 2010 or for separate purchase in iLife '11.
    • Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).
    • Bundled as part of the iLife '11 package. Also available for purchase in the Mac App Store.
  • iMovie 10.0 October 22, 2013
    • Bundled with all new Macs and for separate purchase from the Mac App Store. Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and later.
The last version available for Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9 and later) is version10.0.5. [rolleyes2] [goofy]
Quote from: Wikipedia
Movie 10.0 was released on October 22, 2013 by Apple Inc. This version of iMovie was a complete redesign with more options to share a movie, more movie and trailer theme options from iMovie for iOS, easier to make picture-in-pictures, cutaways, side-by-sides etc., more realistic green-screen effects and easier refinements. Wikipedia/iMovie

Finally, while you can find several sites offering a download of iMovie 10.0.5, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend any of them. There are simply too many malware-infected files available out there, even malware for a Mac!

It may be possible to use the Mac App Store and find a newer version of iMovie than the one you have. Open MAS and use the "Purchased" tab, click (or double-click) the iMovies item and see if a newer version is available for your machine.

Hi Xair,
I did not find that iMovie 10 is available for my 10.9.5. Everything in the  app store was for 10.11 and 10.12. I wish Apple or someone would give such a clear listing as you do.
Thanks,
Irving

Sailor's warning . . . (Re: Moods of the sky . . . 2016-17)

Dear WeatherCat users who like old weather sayings . . . .

The old saying: "Red sky at morning - sailor's warning" came true this morning:

I ran around all day to get ready for the next series of storms.  The forecast remains as ominous as the picture.  I hope my preparations are good enough!

Cheers, Edouard

Blick,
nice shot. We should have winter here in the alps, too - but this year we have had nearly no snowfall till now. We are waiting on some 40 to 50 cm's, hopefully sometimes in February it will snow.  ???

Dear Blick, X-Air, Reinhard, and WeatherCat observers of the passing seasons,. . . .

Still winter here.

Uh yes! I do declare that it does look like winter in your photograph!  [snow]  At the rate things are going, perhaps you will need to move your ISS so that it doesn't get buried in the snow!

;) . . . Well, why don't you ask Blick if he can share?  It does appear he has a wee bit more snow than he can actually use at the moment! . . .  [biggrin]

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

8 feet (2.44 metres) of snow so far this month. I do have extra so I can ship it to you for no charge. All you have to do is pay our shipping and handling fees (plus import and custom fees). Let me know how much you want.  [snowflake] [snowflake]

Menacing looking fog . . . (Re: Moods of the sky . . . 2016-17)

Dear WeatherCat shutterbugs, . . . . . .

Apparently, a lot of rain means fewer photogenic sunrises in my neck of the woods.  This morning wasn't a top-drawer display, but it definitely was different than what I usually come across:

What makes this picture even more unusual is that this was an effect on fog only.  When the sun finally rose, there were no clouds above the fog.  It is an unusual coloration of very low-level marine moisture.

Enjoy the change of pace!  :)

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

This afternoon, I climbed the pile of snow and ice at the end of my driveway and did some maintenance on my ISS. For the first time in history, I did not have to use a ladder. We will end up with just about 10 feet of snowfall here for the month.

Can't figure out what the middle photo uploads sideways. Too much ice tipped the camera over I guess.
