Sensiron SHT31 -- new Davis temp & humidity sensors
« on: September 21, 2016, 08:22:50 PM »
Has anyone noticed that Davis has new (higher accuracy) temp & humidity sensors for the VP2?

I wonder if Davis will automatically make the exchange when users send in their units for factory refurbishment?

Interesting Felix. I am unable to find this part on Davis new website, which is no great surprise. Their new website makes its impossible to find replacement parts. Doesn't really matter much, since no one buys parts directly from them anyway. But it looks like a solid accuracy improvement.

Modest upgrade for most stations. (Re: Sensiron SHT31)

Dear Felix, Blick, and WeatherCat accuracy freaks, . . .

Has anyone noticed that Davis has new (higher accuracy) temp & humidity sensors for the VP2?

Actually I had noticed this on the Scaled Instruments website a while back, but didn't see any reason to upgrade.

Old Temperature Humidity sensor specs:

Temperature ? ?0.5?C (?1?F) above -7?C  (20?F)   and  ?1?C (?2?F) under -7?C (20?F)
Humidity ? ?3% (0 to 90% RH) and ?4% (90 to 100% RH)

New Temperature Humidity sensor specs:

Temperature ? ?0.3?C (?0.5?F) across entire range
Humidity ? ?2% across entire range

It is only a modest improvement unless you are in an extreme environment.

I wonder if Davis will automatically make the exchange when users send in their units for factory refurbishment?

I would assume that they would only replace temperature sensors that are defective and they might well continue to replace older stations with whatever remaining inventory of old sensors they have.  After all, they do want to encourage people to buy new stations from time to time.  Upgraded components could be enough to get someone to replace rather than repair.

Cheers, Edouard

P.S. Still, if you are in a location with a very harsh winter, the upgrade might be worth it.

P.P.S. If you desire this upgrade, this might be the time to buy it - it is on sale - 10% off.
