Photographs of Autumn 2016 taken by the WeatherCat community.
« on: August 29, 2016, 08:08:32 PM »
Dear WeatherCat shutterbugs, . . . . .

Yes I know, the equinox isn't for almost an entire month.  However on my daily walk, I encountered this tree:

It appears that the extreme heat of June and July combined with the coolest August on record around here has gotten this tree to turn early.

Since us WeatherCatters live all over the world and therefore Autumn will come at different times, here is your invitation to take some photos of the season and share them with us.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Another tree losing its leaves . . . (Re: Photographs of Autumn 2016)
« Reply #1 on: September 18, 2016, 11:47:42 PM »
Dear WeatherCat watchers of the season's turning,

Whether it is ignoring the heatwave (or perhaps because of it) the trees in Northern California are continuing to turn.  Here is another tree that has almost lost all of its leaves:

Looks to me like many trees won't wait until the equinox before turning.  I think this is an unexpected side-effect of the harsh weather around here.  It was extremely hot in June and July and the trees are effectively "exhausted."

Oh well,
. . . . Edouard

This is the road to our house, about 2.5 miles (4 km) of this up the mountain.

Dear WeatherCat Shutterbugs,

I know Felix started another equinox thread, but posting a photo there seemed a little out of place.  So I'll post another fall tree scene here to put people into the mood of the season:

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

CAs unappealing side of autumn (Re: Photographs of Autumn 2016)
« Reply #8 on: September 28, 2016, 10:11:11 PM »
Dear WeatherCat watchers of the seasons,

California isn't like many other parts of the country.  For us, Autumn is the worst for the heat.  Frequently, the weather can turn from cool to beastly hot as cold fronts and high pressure ridges trade places.  After a nasty heat wave it is starting to cool down but this is what the hills around my neighborhood look like:

Some of the leaves are being burnt before they can change color.  In the background are the dried grasses that has been dead for over 6 months.  In between is haze caused by the smoke from nearby fires.

At the moment, the rains of winter seem to be nothing more than a distant hope.

Oh well, . . . . . Edouard

Turning colder (Re: Photographs of Autumn 2016)

Dear WeatherCat observers of the seasons turning,

My neck of the woods isn't very exciting as far as autumn colors is concerned.  I hope that there will be some more impressing displays soon.  Still here is a quick picture to serve as a "bump" for this thread:

It is blustery and cool here in Northern California.  It definitely now feels the part of fall.

Cheers, Edouard

P.S. So who's next?

One of the lakes I walk around at least 4 times a week. Just down the street. It's a rather upper-class town, but we cut a hole in the fence where they can't find it!

Some in the county may have got the first killing frost early this morning. No ice on this water, yet!

I know Edouard will delete this post if I don't include a PWS. Would you believe it's on the tower in the shot below?

Apparently he didn't believe me, so I moved the images over here!  cmu:-)

Dear X-Air and WeatherCat pigeon-holers

Apparently he didn't believe me, so I moved the images over here!  cmu:-)

Awe shucks, you really didn't have to move the pictures.  However, in a way I'm glad you did.  The weather is getting more "assertive" around here just at the time the trees are starting to turn.  At the moment it doesn't look like I'll be contributing much more to this thread.

Cheers, Edouard
