Dear WeatherCat watchers of the seasons,
California isn't like many other parts of the country. For us, Autumn is the worst for the heat. Frequently, the weather can turn from cool to beastly hot as cold fronts and high pressure ridges trade places. After a nasty heat wave it is starting to cool down but this is what the hills around my neighborhood look like:
Some of the leaves are being burnt before they can change color. In the background are the dried grasses that has been dead for over 6 months. In between is haze caused by the smoke from nearby fires.
At the moment, the rains of winter seem to be nothing more than a distant hope.
