Grouping of custom gauges and graphs into a 'dashboard'
« on: November 19, 2015, 12:24:03 PM »
The custom gauges and graphs are beautiful, and look great on a Mac screen.  The only issue is that they are all treated independently by the OS, which means that after carefully setting up sizes and screen positions individual elements tend to get partly hidden behind other applications.  And they can't easily be repositioned, either, other than moving them one by one.

I'd like an easy way to group custom gauges and graphs into one self-contained dashboard-type display that the OS treats as a unit.  It would be good to be able to adjust size and position of individual elements within the dashboard, then have it displayed or hidden in one click, as if it were a single window. The dashboard could be dragged around on screen and re-sized as needed.

This is a request to be able to do this on a Mac screen, not via a web template.

Michael

Sounds like a good idea to me. I second the motion.

Give the operator a few choices of dashboard types with user defined choices of which measured variable to put in which gauge hole or chart hole. Be able to save several dashboards and call them up as needed. It would even help a lot if full screen was one of the options.

Perhaps it is a bit of a project, but it would definitely make for a better Cat program.

Sounds intriguing!

You could call the container a CatBox, Stu! :)

Dear Michael, Herb, Steve, and WeatherCat feature gluttons, . . .

I'd like an easy way to group custom gauges and graphs into one self-contained dashboard-type display that the OS treats as a unit.

This idea has been kicked around since the private beta phase of WeatherCat 2.x.  There is no doubt some organization would be desirable.  However, OS X may not be the most helpful medium for Stu to work with.  Already the "spaces" (whatever they are called today) doesn't permit an application to preserve the location of windows in the space they are moved to.  That's just wrong.  Only Stu would know if the OS service calls exist to do this sort of a thing and if it would be pretty or really, really, ugly!

Cheers, Edouard

If you have any web space, you can easily create a page to <display> them and just leave a browser running (even if you have no web space, you can make a local web page that you can display in a browser, you just use "file:///MyGauges.html" instead of "http://whatever").

The "CatBox" idea sounds good, also, assuming it doesn't need to have the litter changed too often!

Perhaps Stu could wrangle those gauges into the WeatherCat Client window or just have it allow the user to select what appears in it.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

As Edouard notes, this has been discussed in private beta and is on the cards sometime in the future.
