Title: Webcam software for Mac
Post by: Ryan Hothersall on October 24, 2018, 06:23:38 AM
Currently have a windows 10 machine set up running Yawcam for my website, http://ryanhothersall.net/gulfview-heights-weather/
The image refreshes every 10 seconds. Using a Microsoft life cam, can?t remember the exact model, but is a recent model one.

Is there any webcam software for Mac that does the same as Yawcam?.

My plan is to eventually do away with the various windows machines I have scattered around the house. However, one is running the software for feedinging ADSB data to Flightradar24 and I think that will have to stay as is.

A friend who has a second hand Mac mini sat around unused he is thinking of selling I would use to replace the windows machine.

There's a thread in the forum someplace with some suggested alternatives for the now defunct EvoCam. I'll see if I can find it.

Having said that, EvoCam (no longer available online) continues to purr along just fine with the beta listed in my profile. I'll be sorry when the OS no longer supports it.

OK, here's the thread I was thinking about. But since the 64-bit EvoCam 5 continues to work with my cameras (and OS), I haven't spent any time looking at this software Blick called our attention to:

Other Mac webcam software apps I've been sticking in a folder as I see mentioned on the various weather and security forums are listed below. Again, I haven't looked into them and don't know if they are camera specific. Quite frankly, since all my cameras are Sharx branded, my first step will be to get into contact with their customer service folks to see what they recommend. Unfortunately, Blue Iris isn't publicly shipping a Mac version of their software (although I've heard it's available for commercial users), it's reportedly a tier above anything else.

Security Spy
AtHome Video Streamer
WPS-DVR
SightHound Video
Xeoma
Air Cam
Spy Cam
BlueView
DW-ACS
SwannEye (HD)

I've been using SecuritySpy since the latest Sharx cameras I bought stopped working with EvoCam. It is expensive, but well supported and very full featured. Much more than what I needed. However, it didn't offer a time lapse option like EvoCam had.

I'm not familiar with Yawcam, so can't say whether SecuritySpy does the same things.

My Sharx cameras allow me to send an image at whatever interval I want to my server, which sounds like what you need. Can you do this direct from the camera?

The time-lapse option built into WeatherCat 3x works really well.

It does! But only for one camera. ;)

Well, yes, there is that, now that you mention it.
