Using CCC with Catalina
« on: July 20, 2019, 06:46:10 PM »
For those of us who use Carbon Copy Cloner as part of our overall backup strategy, there is some news about CCC and the next release of macOS, Catalina.

From CCC regarding the current Catalina-capable beta version: Copying macOS Catalina system volumes to or from a Remote Macintosh is not a supported configuration, nor will CCC copy the contents of a System volume to a subfolder on a locally-attached volume. The logistics of producing a bootable copy of the bifurcated system are too complex to manage on or from a remote Mac, so we're only going to support making bootable backups of macOS at the root-level of locally-attached volumes.

For those of us backing up more than one Mac to a single drive with CCC, this is not good news, as we will now have to consider attaching a drive to each Mac in order to get a bootable CCC backup.
