SMS alerts
« on: August 31, 2012, 12:17:00 AM »
Hi!

I am new to the forum, and fairly new to WeatherCat. I used Home Weather Centre a LONG time ago, and was using LWC for a while too.

I liked the way LWC could send an SMS alert eg for rain. Is there anyway to do this in WC?

Or should I post this in future requests?

Incidentally, my next project is to get Web Data Uploader sorted!

Cheers for now,

Rich

Hi Rich, and welcome to the WeatherCat forum!

Everything that was in LWC is in WeatherCat with the exception of three locations.

I liked the way LWC could send an SMS alert eg for rain. Is there anyway to do this in WC?

Go to WeatherCat Preferences --> Alerts Tab --> and then check Send Email under the Rain alert.

Glad you've joined us,
Steve

Hi Steve

Thanks for your welcome and reply.

I do have an e-mail alert set up (and I really enjoy when my station emails me when a record has been broken! - I guess the frequency of these will decrease as my station has been running longer).

But my wife keeps missing her emails and then her washing gets wet on the line! (I had to justify the time and expenditure of my new hobby some how!)

I seemed to remember an SMS tab in LWC and a space to enter the message centre number. Web searches for Lightsoft Weather Centre and SMS seem to confirm I didn't imagine this!

Anyhow, I have now successfully uploaded data to the three services in the Web Data Uploader Script!

Cheers,

Rich

Rich,

I don't remember SMS in LWC, but I've been on WeatherCat since January, and that's a long time ago to remember.  ;) I wouldn't have used the SMS feature, so it might have been right in front of my face and I never noticed it.

You can also have the rain alarm launch an application, so you could trigger a siren sound loop, or a very loud recording of yourself saying "Go get the clothes off the line, wench!" and then run for cover. Or maybe not... :o

Glad you got things up and running,
Steve
