Rip-Off Britain

(1/1)

jace:
I'm constantly worried about correct readings from the rain gauge from my Vantage Vue, I've got a couple of really cheap ground rain gauges and they do record readings close to the Vue, but I have a hankering for something more 'professional', robust but affordable.

I read about CoCoRaHS Manual Rain Gauges from our Cousins across the pond, and have been doing some searches for the gauge over here. Finally found a supplier in the UK, in fact based only about 80 miles away, so a nice drive with the roof down in the Roadster if it ever stopped raining ! [heavyrain]

The cost for the gauge in the USA seems to be about $27, at an exchange rate of ?1 to $1.55 that is ?17.37 in real money.

It's for sale over here for ?45 or $70 !!

Back to cutting bottoms off old fizzy drink bottles I fear.

Makes me wonder how much spare parts for the Vue are going to cost over here, if I need to attempt repairs in the future.......

Steve:
I just posted a cheaper UK option on your MacWeather posting. 30 GBP at Amazon UK.

Why not get a professional gauge off ebay? Made out of copper around ?30 - ?50. One on there at the moment for ?35. They come up regularly and will last a lifetime. You can also convert it to work with your weather station if you wish once you have calibration sorted.

Best wishes

Mike

Cheers Mike.
