Huge broken branch!! (Re: Dangerously hot temperatures across Western US)

Dear WeatherCat observers of weather extremes,

Temperatures are finally starting cool in California, but for some things it was already too late.  This morning I spotted this huge branch that had broken off of a pine tree:

You can get a sense of scale and clearly this is a huge branch.  It is almost the same diameter as the trunk of the tree.  The branch must have broken sometime during the heat-wave.

This tree grows on the edge of a local school yard.  I assume it fell either at night or over the weekend.  Had it given way when children were playing someone could have very easily have gotten hurt!

So the danger of falling limbs is no longer confined to during storms.

Cheers, Edouard
