OK   I appreciate the help.

I wish I had an external program that would snag a snapshot and load it.

WunderGround

As much of a pain as Wunderground can be, uploading to them is easy. You could always build your site to import/link to their hosting of your cam images. But I agree that you should be able to get it working. Try googling the url codes while you wait for more answers. There may be something in the ones we provided that just don't work for your camera model.

Transcription error? (Re: webcam questions)

Dear Weatheraardvark, dfw, JosBaz, and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Webcam error: couldn't read remote file

That should have worked just fine.  Check the WeatherCat logs to see if there is any additional information.  Also, copy the link that you typed into the URL field and paste into your browser.  I suspect it won't work there either and that might give you clue of the typo that is preventing it from working.  When dealing with complex URLs, using the clipboard is absolutely essential. Never try to type a complex URL - da' devil will make you sorry you did!

Cheers, Edouard

For some odd ball reason that url works just fine in the web browser, but it doesn't play fair with Weathercat.   Maybe it is this version of El Capitan.   But I can put it into my web browser and it works, however,  the software doesn't work with it.   Strange beast that it be.    Not sure why but it doesn't.

A thought that I will explore, perhaps as you say, something is blocking it.  I haven't had this computer that long to have screwed it up totally.
Cheers, Edouard

I tried several different cameras with the same result. i Can see it in the browser but not within the program for the update.  I get the same results.  I looked at the webfiles and nada.   I am at a loss.  I even changed the network on the camera.

https won't work, you'll need http. Looking at the manual for your camera, it sets the default port for http to 88, which explains why it won't work in your browser (as the default for http is 80) - try http with port 88 specified in your browser. If that works, then it'll work in WeatherCat

(I found the manual at: http://www.foscam.es/descarga/Camaras_IP_Foscam_de_interior_User_manual.pdf - see section 2.1)

I have put in so many different access formats that I am not sure what I have is what I have
The last one is:
http://192.168.0.9:8104/snapshot.cgi?user=Stationcam2&pwd=1947&t=

I went back into my modem/router.  and checked that the port forwarding was correct.  I can, for example  see the camera on Unet Cams.  That is a nice program ,but it won't work for this purpose because it throws a time stamp after each snapshot and we have loads of them.

I can put in the IP and port address and I get the camera, but there is something from getting Weathercat  see what I am seeing.   Are there any other settings that I should be checking.
I have the firewall up , Bitdefender antivirus.

I went to using port 88  and then 80  and that did nothing, I couldn't see anything.  BUT if I type in
192.168.0.9:8104   in my browser I am good.  But not in your program.

Could it be some quirk with the OS of my system.10.11.1 El Capitan

So unless I can find the right command line ,  I have no clue

Bit Defender
« Reply #22 on: April 09, 2016, 06:10:50 PM »
I'm not sure about Bit Defender, but would it possibly prevent some applications from viewing data from other applications across your network? Browsers are usually allowed to see things but maybe WXCat is being blocked from port 80? Try adding WxCat to your firewall settings to ALLOW ALL INCOMING connections. If you can see your cameras online, in the browser, and on an iPhone both on and off your network, your network settings are correct, but something is blocking WXCat from seeing it.

None of this is working.  I can get the onboard camera to work.. so  IF  I went the other way and got an USB camera, would it pick up that camera?
Maybe it is the nature of the beast with my Foscams.

When I had the pC and was running the webcapture program that is in Weatherdisplay for windows,  I had no problems connecting.  Maybe those cameras sort of work with browsers and browser based programs but not with the MAC base.

Are there any other ip cameras that do work.     My other solution is to enjoy the whole program and move on to the next item.    I do like your program, a very low resource item.

I appreciate the assistance.

From your previous post, you say that 192.168.0.9:8104 works in your browser - this would suggest your http port is set to 8104 (and not the default 88).

If that's the case, then the following URL should be what you need:
Code: [Select]
http://192.168.0.9:8104/cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?cmd=snapPicture2&usr=Stationcam2&pwd=1947&(note the 'http' and not 'https'.)

Try that in your browser.

If you get the image there, then it will work in WeatherCat (assuming nothing is blocking WeatherCat from accessing the camera, as pointed out by dfw_pilot).

If it works in your browser, but not WeatherCat, quit WeatherCat and check your firewall to make sure WeatherCat isn't being blocked from http requests over port 8104 then relaunch it and try again.

Yes, it works in my browser.   The app settings are there, but how on this machine do I check what ports are blocked. on a PC it is easy.

Stealth mode? (Re: webcam questions)
« Reply #26 on: April 09, 2016, 09:59:03 PM »
Dear Weatheraardvark and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Hmm, very odd problem you are having.

On the Mac  firewall,  is there a way to find out which ports are being blocked.  I am attaching my firewall screen

I don't see anything wrong really in your configuration and WeatherCat shouldn't be having any problems.  The only thing I see that is a bit odd is having stealth mode turned on.  Did you find it that way or did you turn that on?  You might try turning it off just to see if it helps.  IMCP is a troubleshooting protocol and some devices might be using it automatically.

Keep it at it and let us know if you find something.

Cheers, Edouard

I turned off the firewall and rebooted the computer.   ah.  no change.   If you hear in the distance a faint but distinct "ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH," that would be me.

The foscams are wireless and other than that, I have no clue.   geez.

On the bright side, everything else works fine.    I haven't put in anything yet to send to my web page, that is forth coming.   I have static stuff.

These things drive you crazy don't they. We all have them.

Edouard was not telling you to turn off your firewall, although you have now ruled that out as possibility. He was suggesting you turn off Stealth Mode. So make sure you have turned your firewall back on and then uncheck the Enable Stealth Mode box and see if that makes a difference.
