Title: Lan Scanners
Post by: Blicj11 on October 10, 2017, 08:55:29 PM
There are a number of free LAN scanners used by WeatherCatters on their home networks. The two most frequently mentioned on this forum are Angry IP  and LanScan. I have also used Fing from my iOS device. Fing has provided the most information in the easiest manner. However, due to changes made by Apple, beginning with iOS 11, applications are no longer allowed to lookup network device MAC addresses. This means that Fing and all other iOS LAN scanners will no longer be able to discover or display MAC addresses. Booooooo!

Of the MacOS free scanners, LanScan displays MAC addresses, but I've never been able to figure out how to display MAC addresses in Angry IP.

1. Can anyone who has upgraded to High Sierra tell me if LanScan still displays MAC addresses after the upgrade?

2. Does anyone have a recommendation for a scanner that has not been mentioned?

IP Scanner Home (http://10base-t.com/macintosh-software/ipscanner-appstore/) v 3.58 displays MAC data. It's only running on 10.11.6. It does have an iOS 11 version but the dev notes the same thing you do about MAC data blocking. :(

I am using LanScanPro ($5,99) and I can confirm that it is working on High Sierra. MAC addresses are displayed.

Cheers,
