Thanks for sharing.  I don't think Apple had much choice in the matter.  I do hope they don't simply defer some work, but overhaul their QA procedures.

Unfortunately, that may be true from the end-user perspective, but there is a serious naivety in this idea.  Real content (from software to serious audio, still photos, and videos) all require the sort of software that only is effective on a real computer like a Mac.  I'm not expecting any feature films to be developed on an iPad anytime soon.

So the market for Macs may be limited, but Apple absolutely has to continue to make top-notch equipment for the pros who need it.

Cheers, Edouard

Alas, the "Pro" user base is even smaller than the consumer base. On the other hand, there are some firms that buy huge numbers of Macs, also. None of these users/uses is a guarantee that the Macintosh will be around in even 5 years.

The point is, professional and business users/purchasers will find what ever company meets their needs, even if employees don't like it. Therefore, Apple is not now nor will it be in the future, the sole source of computers for any market. The code for all current consumer operating systems is all compiled for the same hardware: a 64-bit Intel cpu. A compiler for any OS can run on that cpu. Developers may not need a Mac to compile software for an iDevice in the future, it just happens to be the only hardware that currently has one (as far as I know). After all, most of the core bits of the Mac OS was built on a Next PC.
