We had our first snow fall of the season today, just a dusting which melted right off, but it's definitely time to think about winter coming on. Here's what the mountain looks like today.
What a difference one day makes.
We'll probably have a short Fall color "show" due to less-than-average rain fall this year. However, between the first two Super Moons, this is the first capture of our biggest Maple.

I would have sworn there was a way to link to a specific post in a thread. [banghead]
One of the lakes I walk around at least 4 times a week. Just down the street. It's a rather upper-class town, but we cut a hole in the fence where they can't find it!
I know Edouard will delete this post if I don't include a PWS. Would you believe it's on the tower in the shot below?
you could have posted it on the scenes of autumn thread instead!I would have, if I'd seen that new thread before posting them here. I'll delete the post here and repost there. Or, since you have nothing to do on Sunday evenings, you can do it! cmu:-)
This time of year, Oct-Nov, the sunrise has moved southwards and can result in nice colors reflected on clouds over the mountains.
. . . .
This photo was taken with my Canon Powershot computer-controlled webcam pointed SE.
The sun now comes up over the mountains in view of my webcam. This morning clear sky and wintery -5C.
I think my anemometer may be waxing poetic -
However Steve you are definitely doing your part to make us amateurs look good! ThU32:-)
Got this sunrise photo from my webcam that is taking shots every 10 min. Seems like November is the best month for sunrises here.
This morning I experienced the most colorful sunrise imaginable.
My trusty webcam took photos at 5 minute intervals. Here they are on Youtube.
Somehow I think the resolution could be better but the colors are ok.
The loss of resolution seems to be when converting for Youtube. For some reason Youtube did not like my password so I made a .mp4 and also a .mov file then uploaded to my Irandar Youtube channel. I simply do not know how to get the most out of Youtube. I would be glad to hear from someone with Youtube experience.
Finally worked out the best solution for the Youtube resolution with iMovie 09. I have to choose the wide format otherwise the HD is not available.
Movie 10.0 was released on October 22, 2013 by Apple Inc. This version of iMovie was a complete redesign with more options to share a movie, more movie and trailer theme options from iMovie for iOS, easier to make picture-in-pictures, cutaways, side-by-sides etc., more realistic green-screen effects and easier refinements. Still winter here.
We should have winter here in the alps, too - but this year we have had nearly no snowfall till now. We are waiting on some 40 to 50 cm's, hopefully sometimes in February it will snow. ???
This afternoon, I climbed the pile of snow and ice at the end of my driveway and did some maintenance on my ISS. For the first time in history, I did not have to use a ladder. We will end up with just about 10 feet of snowfall here for the month.
Can't figure out what the middle photo uploads sideways. Too much ice tipped the camera over I guess.
Although there remains some difference with timing, there is fairly good that three systems can be expected (Tuesday, Wednesday/Thursday, and then next weekend). Whether or not we end up getting an atmospheric river (AR) setup from any of the systems remains to be seen. However, both the GFS operational and ensemble mean indicated IVT values over 300 kg/m/s. Going out further, ECMWF guidance does indicate a potential AR with the system next weekend.
Twelve days ago my Canon webcam took this photo of the striking evening view. It may not look like May 2 but it was. My PWS is barely visible at the bottom.
This spring has offered a lot of unusual temperatures. March was very warm, which caused many plants to blossom 3 weeks early. Afterwards April gave Switzerland some very erratic and low temperatures as the attachment indicates. As a result many fruit crops were wiped out. Vineyards were especially hard hit, with some farmers losing the entire crop.
The mountain is ensconced in smoke from two forest fires that have us sandwiched in. Both fires started by lightening strikes - one is 44% contained after two weeks and the other is 5% contained after two days. Scary stuff.
