Weathercat 2.0 running perfectly on Yosemite....no issues.
I do have issues with weathercat 2.0 and Lion os (10.7.5)
My custom gauges would not load to my custom web pages ....if I run the very same thing on Yosemite no problem ! Anyone experiencing the same problem ?
I use my old macbook with Lion os as a server for my weather station and cannot update the software any further.
Any suggestions ?
Regards,
Leon Rossouw, South Africa.

Upgraded to Yosemite this morning.

I am astounded at how gorgeous this operating system is. Everything looks sharper and crisper, with more vibrant colours. I have all of my WeatherCat tools, gauges, graphs, etc. on a secondary monitor, an old Dell HDTV monitor I picked up several years ago for US$130. Even the Cat on that old monitor looks a little better! I know that looks are only on the surface and I haven't delved into it the innards yet, but I like what I see.

WeatherCat is purring along nicely.

Computer: Late 2013 27" iMac 3.5 GHz i7, 24 GB RAM
OS: Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite
Hardware: Davis wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus, WeatherLinkIP data logger
WeatherCat version: 2.0.0 (build 4475)

Stu:

I've had a couple of WeatherCat crashes. I sent the Apple Crash Report by email. I've also attached a screenshot of something I don't understand but it has been part of both reboots.

Thanks.

Thanks Blick - just had a look, it's crashing in the OS whilst trying to process a timer firing. Unfortunately no WeatherCat code involved. I've sent your report on to Apple for them to have a look at.

There isn't much I can do at this end at the moment but we can get some information which may highlight where the problem lies. First reboot your machine, then if still crashing try closing WeatherCat windows one at a time - hopefully one of them will be the cause and the crashing will stop. As it was a timer crash, I'd suggest starting with the windows that are the heaviest users of timers - these are the basic gauges window and the video preview window. If either of these are open, close them one by one.

After that move onto other things such as satellite imagery viewer, custom gauges and so on.

Let me know how you get on.

(Don't worry about the log message - it's just telling me I need to update the method of getting the OS version I'm using).

Stu:

I haven't had a crash since the one I reported, but I am noticing that now I get a Comms Error about every three or four hours. The Live Data tool says they are all timeout errors. I am using the Davis WeatherLinkIP? data logger and it hasn't ever given me any issues. Is there anything I can look at or try to see if I can eliminate these errors?

Thanks.

Got it thanks - it's different to the last one and it's interesting because I've seen that one on support as well.

Can you keep an eye on WeatherCat's memory usage (Applications->Utilities->Activity Monitor - go to the memory tab and watch WeatherCat's memory). If it's going up and up and up (into the gigabytes range), it probably means a leak and eventually it's running out of memory.

Not seeing it here, but it may be something to do with the configuration.

Just crashed again, log attached. Memory was only in the neighbourhood of 380 MB. It had started out around 290 MB and slowly grown but that doesn't seem too high to me.

Thanks Blick,
Different again. It might be an issue with a corrupt preferences file - random stuff like this is sometimes an indication of a problem with the preferences file.

To create a new one:
Quit WeatherCat then rename your WeatherCat preferences file (~/Library/Preferences/com.trixology.weathercat.plist - where ~ is your home directory) to something like weathercat.plist.old then reboot the machine. It's very important to reboot, otherwise the old settings will hang about in RAM and will be used to recreate the old file.

When launched WeatherCat will now create a new preferences file and all settings will be back to default so you may want to make a note of any settings your may have trouble finding such as your lat/long, FTP paths etc. before doing this.

Secondly, could you take a copy of your WeatherCatData folder (~/Library/WeatherCatData), remove the Location1 folder then zip it up and send it to me along with the old prefs file so I can take a look.

Stu:

I emailed you the requested items. I was still crashing a couple of times a day prior to recreating the plist. Only been up for 18 minutes so way too early to know if the plist was the culprit.

Thanks.
