The 2019 Hurricane season.
« on: June 12, 2019, 10:39:19 PM »
Dear WeatherCat observers of extreme weather (preferably from a safe distance,)

One of the rites of summer is the cyclonic storm season in the northern hemisphere.  NOAA has made a press release regarding its predictions for both sides of the United States:

https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/noaa-predicts-near-normal-2019-atlantic-hurricane-season

In addition, the Climate Prediction Center has made it's forecast for the Atlantic hurricane season:

https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/outlooks/hurricane.shtml

The names for the storms in the Atlantic have been chosen as follows:

Andrea, Barry, Chantal, Dorian, Erin, Fernand, Gabrielle, Humberto, Imelda, Jerry, Karen, Lorenzo, Melissa, Nestor, Olga, Pablo, Rebekah, Sebastien,  Tanya, Van, and Wendy

According to this website:

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml

The names are reused ever 6 years.  However some names to get "retired" because the storms involved were so destructive.  There is a list of such names on this website:

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames_history.shtml

Not to forget the Eastern Pacific, there is a forecast here:

https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Epac_hurr/

The names for the Eastern Pacific Hurricanes are:

Alvin, Barbara, Cosme, Dalila, Erick, Flossie, Gil, Henriette, Ivo, Juliette, Kiko, Lorena, Mario, Narda, Octave, Priscilla, Raymond, Sonia, Tico, Velma, Wallis, Xina,York, and Zelda

Perhaps we could use this thread for whatever hurricane discussions occur this summer.  While admittedly optimistic, let us hope that all WeatherCatters will only have to discuss cyclonic weather that is far, far, away.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Hope nobody is in harm's way of hurricane Dorian (Re: 2019 Hurricane season.)

Dear WeatherCat faithful,

The computer models have had an unusually difficult time predicting the path of hurricane Dorian.  That has made the situation for Floridians particularly miserable.  I don't recall any WeatherCat regulars from that part of the country, but I do hope any WeatherCatters in the region are coping with the storm.

Cheers, Edouard
